Early morning fire damages a Central Fresno market

The Fresno Fire Department said flames broke out at the Lewis Market near Fresno Street and Lewis Avenue around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities said the fire started in the front of the market and then spread inside. Firefighters say they saw 3-foot flames shooting through the roof when they first arrived.

Investigators don't know what caused the fire, but said it appears suspicious. Fire crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to nearby homes.

No one was hurt, but the market is heavily damaged.
