Discovery Center in central Fresno held its grand re-opening today

FRESNO, Calif.

It's been closed since 2000 when a fire destroyed the building. About six years ago officials decided to refurbish the facility instead of tearing it down.

Discovery Center President Gary Pigg says it's great to once again see families enjoying the exhibits.

"We have a great city in Fresno there's a lot of things to do but there aren't many places where kids can see science in action they can actually feel it and work it," Pigg said.

The museum originally opened back in 1954 and has transitioned over the years into more of an Exploratorium.

It will only be open on the weekends for the next few months but officials say they're looking forward to having students visit the museum on field trips very soon.
