Fresno house fire leaves family homeless

FRESNO, Calif.

Fresno Fire says the flames started in the attic of the home in the area of Brown and Hanover Avenues. Three people were inside the house when the fire started, but they managed to get out safely.

Firefighters say flames were coming out of the roof when they arrived.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say something the home-owner said could be a clue to what sparked the flames.

"She did say she smelled an electrical type smell. We're still investigating to see what may have started the fire," said Ted Semonious of Fresno Fire Department.

Fire officials say smoke and water caused an estimated of $50,000 in damages to the home.

The Red Cross is now helping the family find a new place to live.
