Vacant home burns down near Selma

The fire was reported just after midnight on Temperance and Clemenceau, southwest of Selma. Firefighters say when they arrived the 2,000 square foot home was fully engulfed.

The home was vacant and by the time crews arrived there was nothing they could do to save it.

"We've been having a rash of vacant building fires in the western Fresno County area. So we just go defensive, protect firefighters and make sure we protect the structures around it," said Michael Bowman, Fresno County Fire Department.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation Tuesday morning, but fire investigators suspect it could have been caused by transients trying to stay warm.
