Southeast Fresno fire leaves family without a home

FRESNO, Calif.

The fire happened around 11 p.m. Monday at a home on Lyell Avenue near Butler. Authorities say the fire broke out in the attic and then spread.

A woman and her son were inside the house when the fire started but were able to make it out safely. They're now staying with family members. The family's cat and dog also survived.

The Fresno Fire Department is still trying to figure out what sparked the flames.
