Hundreds of people came out to north Fresno Sunday to show their support for Saturday mail service.

People from as far away as Bakersfield took to street corners for the rally to protect Saturday mail delivery. The United States Postal Service announced last month that Saturday mail service will be discontinued in August.

Organizers say cutting Saturday delivery is not the answer to the post office's financial problems.

District Fore-officer for CA State Assoc. of Letter-carriers Eric Ellis said, "Besides that for the postal service to survive we need to grow the business. Find innovative ways to keep the business."

Ellis also says eliminating Saturday delivery would cost 80,000 postal workers their jobs. Today's rally was just one of four across the state in support of six day mail service.
