Fresno sporting goods store shuts down

FRESNO, Calif.

World of Baseball in northeast Fresno has been up for sale for months and the owner says he tried to sell the business locally but he couldn't find a buyer.

Today some kids still practiced, likely for the last time, in the batting cages.

Merchandise has also been discounted. The owner tells Action News he's moving away from the Valley for personal reasons and he's sad to see the business shut down.

Jeff Johnson, owner said, "I'd just like to thank the community. It's been a good 14 years, the last three I've been here almost every day. I've enjoyed the people. The baseball here in the Valley is excellent."

During peak sales seasons the store employed three full-time workers and as many as 12 part-time people.
