Livingston launching initiative to prevent gang violence

It's called the "CEASE" program, which stands for Community Enhancements and Safe Environments. It calls for installing three surveillance cameras in problematic parts of the city, but the main focus is more interaction between officers and students. The activities include vocational field trips and basketball games at the old high school gym every other Friday night.

Livingston Police Chief Ruben Chavez said, "It's an opportunity for us, to have our officers, myself, being out there interacting with the youth, being mentors, and trying to encourage them to do the right thing and stay in school and prevent them from joining gangs."

The program also includes gang prevention workshops for parents. The next one will take place at Livingston Middle School next Wednesday night.
