Valley officers crack down on distracted driving

The highway patrol, local police, and other officers in the Valley are watching drivers closely. They say cell phone use while behind the wheel has become a major problem.

But distractions also include eating, searching for radio stations, and tending to children.

Martha Tessmer lost her son, Donavon - to a distracted driver and has made it her mission to educate teens on the importance of safe driving.

"You see, we get used to hearing numbers about teens that lose their lives, but what we have to remember is every number has a face," said Tessmer. "Every number has a family."

Reckless and distracted driving has become the number one cause of teen driving deaths.
