The Lao New Year celebration is underway this weekend, and you may want to keep your eyes on the sky.

Today's festivities at the temple on Fruit Avenue in Southwest Fresno included a balloon release. Organizers say the balloons have money in them and will bring blessings to anyone who finds one.

The celebration for the "year of the snake" also features traditional performances, food, and a princess parade.

The fun continues tomorrow an estimated 5 to 6,000 people are expected to attend over the course of the weekend.
