Snelling murder, kidnapping case begins

Prosecutors described a North Valley kidnapping and murder case as a "twisted tale of deception."

You may recall the 2010 case against Jose Velarde and Maria Teresa Robles. Their trial started Thursday morning, with opening arguments from both the prosecution and defense.

Prosecutors claim the couple wanted a son but couldn't have any more children. So they hatched a plan to befriend and then kill Ana Diaz De Ceja.

De Ceja's burned body was found in an orchard. Her baby Anthony was later found in Le Grand.

Defense attorneys say what jurors heard is only part of the story. The rest will be unraveled throughout the month long trial.
