Castaic-area brush fire is fully containment; fire crews mopping up

CASTAIC, Calif.

The fire was fully contained by Saturday evening at more than 700 acres.

The blaze broke out around 1:30 p.m. Friday along the southbound 5 Freeway near Castaic Road. It spread quickly, pushing toward several homes and Northlake Hills Elementary School.

Nineteen homes were temporarily evacuated, and the school was placed under lockdown as parents rushed in to pick up their children.

The fire eventually veered away from the school and all evacuation orders were lifted. The blaze has slowed to a crawl near Castaic Lake.

No injuries or damage were reported.
