The California Board of State and Community Corrections is allowing the City of Fresno to administer more than $1-million to deal with crime in Fresno County.
Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer told the Fresno City Council the money will be used to add five crime analysts to his department. "And so it will allow us on a county wide basis to be able to address crime and really to be able to target those individuals that pose the most problems to us. Those who are the most prolific thieves the habitual criminals."
The Clovis Police Department will also get funding for one crime analyst. Pay and benefits for each analyst will be about $73-thousand per year.
The money will also be used to set up a computerized filing system in the district attorneys office so police reports from all Fresno County cities will be automatically filed with the DA's office. Dyer says that will save officers time and paperwork.
