Fresno Police seize weapons from gang members

FRESNO, Calif.

Fresno police have been on edge for the past couple of months. Ever since officers shot and killed a man in west Fresno April , they have reported receiving threats.

Fresno's Police Chief displayed the weapons he believed gang members could have used to back up those threats. The weapons here include semi-automatic assault style weapons that can hold more than the legal amount of bullets.

"10246 needless to say when you have these types of firearms that are out on our streets with high capacity magazines in the hands of the wrong people they can do a lot of damage in our community," said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

The guns were seized from four homes late last week.Police arrested 37-year-old Reef Goodwin. He is charged with several counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of illegal high capacity magazines for those weapons.

Police are looking for Kevin Maddox, 42-years-old and facing the same charges.Dyer believes these men are among those who have made threats to kill Fresno cops.

"We will target those making the threats and we will target the leadership of those west Fresno gangs," said Dryer.

The Police Chief said there are a lot more weapons out there, and as a result of the ongoing threats police will continue to double up on patrols so that no officer is out on the streets alone.

Dyer said officers are taking extra precautions in responding to 911 calls because he believes there is a plot in place to shoot a police officer who responds to a phony call.
