Central Unified welcomes students back to school

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif.

Cheerleaders welcomed students this morning at River Bluff Elementary School in Northwest Fresno.

District officials say staff members have been eagerly awaiting the first day back and are ready to start teaching. This year, 15-thousand students are enrolled in Central Unified.

"We are still growing exponentially. We're growing 4 to 500 students this year which was about the rate we were growing at the peak of the housing market, and we believe its because of these things we're providing, the programs and the engaging environment," said Mike Berg, Central Unified School Superintendent.

This year, all staff members will be given tablets to help teach and manage their classrooms. District officials say it's another tool to help kids learn in the 21st century.
