Fresno County DA asks Board of Supervisors to end wage cuts

FRESNO, Calif.

Elizabeth Egan told the board she has lost 20 prosecutors in the past year because of the nine percent wage cut imposed by the county, and the county's refusal to negotiate. District Attorney investigators have sustained similar cuts.

Egan told the board without experienced attorneys to prosecute cases, criminals will go free.

"The DA's office has been systematically weakened over these months over this negotiation process," said Egan.

Board members agreed to give the prosecutors and investigators one week to submit a counter offer to the county.

In other action, the supervisors agreed to seek bids for a new office building to house the District Attorneys office.
