The Valley remembers 9/11

FRESNO, Calif.

In Clovis, hundreds of people gathered at Schneider Electric for the annual memorial that honors fallen heroes. Military members and local emergency responders took part in the ceremony, which included a wreath procession and a 21-gun salute.

Buchanan high school is also remembering the September 11th attacks. Students and those living in the community took time to remember first responders, and innocent Americans who lost their lives. The service took place at the memorial gardens, and included Fresno State's ROTC program. Organizers say they wanted to pay tribute to the victims of the terrorist attacks, and Valley military members who have died fighting to protect our country.

Each name of the eight Buchanan students who died in war was read at the memorial. Lanterns were released at the end of the memorial as a way of honoring their memory.

Fresno State is observed the National Day of Service And Remembrance as proclaimed by President Obama, to honor the victims of the September 11th terror attacks.

The university has its national and state flags at half-mast until sunset. The campus directive by University President Joseph Castro affects flags at the Rose Garden, North Gym, Save Mart Center and any athletics venue where events are hosted by Fresno State.

In Clovis, students at Fancher Creek Elementary took part in a remembrance ceremony on Wednesday. They held a school-wide flag salute, followed by a moment of silence.

The first family gathered to mark the 12th anniversary of the September 11th attacks in Washington D.C.

Events are happening across the country throughout the day to honor the memory of those who died. In New York, the One World Trade Center is now the tallest building in the country standing at 1,776 feet. Construction on other buildings at the World Trade Center site, continues.
