Fresno apartment shooting prompts elementary school lockdown

FRESNO, Calif.

The shooting happened Thursday morning at Polk and Fairmont near Teague Elementary School officials say the campus was only on lockdown for about five minutes.

Officers were dispatched to the scene at about 10 a.m. Thursday. Officers say the shooting started when two groups of males were involved in a verbal argument that escalated to gunfire.

Police say a number of apartment units were hit but they did not find a victim, and while police were still on scene more shots were fired.

"While we were on scene back in the apartment complex a second shooting occurred out here on the street, on the roadway," Lt. Jon Papaleo with the Fresno Police department said.

Police are working to determine if the same groups of people were involved. They are also looking for a white two-door Chrysler with a black top.
