Valley Foster Farms facilities may be shut down

FRESNO, Calif.

The company was given until Thursday to respond to claims that their plants had high levels of salmonella. Officials have to tell the U.S. Department of Agriculture how they will fix the problem, or they will be shut down.

Meanwhile, health officials say at least five people in Fresno County have been sickened -- including two who had to be hospitalized. And now, Consumer Reports is asking the company to pull the contaminated products.

"We would like Foster Farms to issue a recall for these raw chicken products associated with outbreak plants. We would also like the U.S. Department of Agriculture to request that Foster Farms make this recall," said Dr. Urvashi Rangan, Consumer Reports Food Safety Center.

Two of the three locations involved are located in Fresno. The other is located in Livingston.
