Starting at 12 a.m. Saturday a portion of Highway 180 shutdown. Construction crews said that is because they are working overtime to make sure drivers heading to work on Monday have an easier commute to the office.
The ongoing construction on the Braided Ramps Project is frustrating many drivers.
"I am going to try and avoid it at all costs. I don't want to deal with it," Nicole Stelton from Fresno said.
Over the weekend should expect to see a lot more construction workers in the area and notice a temporary closure on Highway 180.
"Pay attention. Particularly there will be new signage out there so please drive with caution and observe the new signage," Neil Bretz with Caltrans said.
Drivers heading Westbound on 180 can expect a shutdown between freeways 41 and 168 until noon on Saturday. The goal is to eventually make driving much smoother come Monday morning. That's when commuters will have two new ways to access Northbound freeway 41.
If you are traveling Westbound on 168 you will be able to bypass the 180 and go directly to Northbound 41, on a new stretch of road.
"And if you're already on the 180 you'll be able to use a connector which goes under the new bridge," Bretz said. "You avoid mixing with the traffic on 180 so you have less traffic to deal with and you don't have to worry about traffic to merge in front of you so it's much safer and easier."
Other closures to keep in mind this weekend include Chestnut and Cedar entrances to Westbound 180, as well as the McKinley entrance to Westbound 168.
