The officer's motorcycle and the car collided on the eastbound lanes of Shaw Avenue. The officer was sent to the hospital with moderate injuries.
Authorities said the officer was headed north on Del Mar -- and was about to go after a vehicle speeding along Shaw. As he was crossing the street, he was hit by the car.
The California High Patrol is investigating the incident. The driver of the car is uninjured and has not been cited or charged.
