Some schools in the North Valley are getting financial help to buy local.

Schools in Modesto are among the recipients of a nation-wide Farm-To-School grant by the U.S. Agriculture Department.

They will use the money to host what's being called "California Thursdays" -- in which school districts will buy locally-grown foods for their lunch programs.

Schools in other California cities are also expected to receive money from this grant, including some in Oakland and Pasadena.
