Train hits pedestrian and dog near Palm and Dakota Avenues in Fresno

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office said a person and a dog were hit by a train near Palm and Dakota Avenues around 11:10 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities say a pedestrian was pushing a shopping cart with a dog when they were struck by a freight train. The person has been transported to a hospital with unknown injuries. Authorities say the dog died after being hit by the train.

Palm and Dakota Avenues were closed but have since reopened.
