The office of former President George H. W. Bush released a statement Tuesday night confirming that the former first lady was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital on Monday for "treatment on a respiratory related issue."
"She is in great spirits, has already received visits from her husband and family, and is receiving fantastic care. Updates will be issued when warranted," the statement continued.
A family friend told ABC News that it's believed the hospitalization is a precaution.
The wife of the President George H. W. Bush and mother of President George W. Bush is 88 years old.
