It's the first time since the beginning of the recession Fresno State has had a waiting list for companies looking to get into its spring career and internship expo.
"We have a mix of employers, everything from retail to banking to Ag,solar companies,"Rita Bocchinfuso-Cohen with Fresno State Career Services said.
Many of the companies are located throughout the state, which is a good sign for students like Mohit Ashrit, who is looking to get hired with a tech company once he graduates in the spring.
"Some really good employers like Pepsi Co; they're looking for computer programmers. AT&T, the mobile company, they're also looking for some computer science so I'm going to go, so I'm trying to find some good jobs here," Ashrit said.
But while the job market has improved Director of Fresno State Career Services Rita Bocchinfuso-Cohen says it's still competitive.
"You want to dress appropriately, come with resumes," Bocchinfuso-Cohen said. "This is a good opportunity for those students who have good communication skills. It's usually one of the top five skills; it's been that way for decades, great opportunity for people to highlight their interpersonal skills."
Joe Ange is a first-time vendor at Fresno State. The buyer at a company called Markon is looking to hire two summer interns and a fulltime inspector to help operate the fresh produce purchasing cooperative in Salinas California. He says applicants don't necessarily need a degree in Ag.
"Really it's the person we're looking for. Someone who's interested in food, someone who's interested in business and really just willing to learn, to grow and to work," Ange said.
Experts say a follow up email with a copy of your resume also gets you noticed and may move your resume to the top of the stack. Day two of the Career and Internship Expo starts Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m.
