Police: Man killed in Southwest Fresno gang-related shooting

FRESNO, Calif.

Fresno police say the victim was shot near the intersection of Lorena and Lotus avenues around 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators were in the neighborhood for several hours, trying to find the person or people who shot and killed the man. They knocked on doors and talked to neighbors in hopes of finding witnesses who saw the violence happen.

Bullet casings scattered Lotus Avenue long after the body of the gunshot victim was found not far from a house. Crime scene detectives placed evidence markers and took photos of the scene to get a better idea of what may have led to Sunday morning's violence.

"We found some evidence in the roadway. We have the area blocked off, and homicide detectives are responding to continue the investigation," said Fresno police Sgt. Glen Schafer.

Most of the neighbors were too afraid to appear on camera. Police have confirmed this was a gang-related shooting. One person, who didn't want to show his face, described the attack.

"Real loud and like a heavy gun," he said.

Homicide investigators say a man in his 20s was killed. Neighbors say they're fed up of gang members because their actions scare others who live nearby.

"It hurts me even though I didn't know him. You just try to be cautious and not really get involved," the man, who did not provide his name, told ABC30.

The victim's name has not been released. So far, no arrests have been made.
