New Porterville park expected to open in August

PORTERVILLE, Calif

A new park is under construction in Porterville on Chase Avenue, just west of Plano Street. The city received a more than $2 million grant for the project, which will feature a playground, walking trail and a soccer-sized grass field. It will also be fully lit so people can use the park at night. It is expected to open in August.

"It's approximately a three-acre park. What's kind of unique about it is it will be one of the nicer parks in Porterville in that it will have a water feature to it where kids can play in the water, if you will, like you might see in some park areas," said Porterville City Manager John Lollis.

The city is still taking suggestions on names for the park. Some have suggested calling it Pardo Park -- named after local soldier A.J. Pardo, who was killed in the line of duty while serving in Afghanistan two years ago.

If you would like to submit a name suggestion for the park, you are asked to contact the City of Porterville's Parks and Leisure Services at (559) 782-7536.
