Chowchilla police were called to the Shell station on Chowchilla Boulevard near Kings Avenue on Friday for reports of a possible pipe bomb. They say a man put the device near the back of the store and left the scene.
Officers evacuated the area, and the Fresno County Sheriff's Department's Bomb Squad rendered the IED safe.
