Honey oil safety class for firefighters in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif.

We have seen several instances where explosions and fires have been caused by someone using butane to extract THC from marijuana during the honey oil making process.

Battalion Chief Chris Jelinek from Humboldt Bay fire came to Fresno to share safety tips and talk about the challenges firefighters face when dealing with honey oil labs.

Jelinek said, "Butane is so volatile, used to refill lighters, it's heavier than air and when this activity is done indoors more often or not it will find an ignition source."

The session focused on hazard recognition and safety considerations.
