Art of Life Healing Garden, a place for cancer patients and survivors in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Cancer is a horrible disease that affects people across the world and right here in the Valley. Now one group is creating a place for the community to heal.

The stakes are in and the path has been paved at what will soon be the art of life's healing garden at Woodward Park.

"I think it's amazing opportunity for the community to come together because we all know cancer, it doesn't just impact the survivors, but it impacts their families their communities," said Jenna Sawdon-Bea, Art of Life Cancer Foundation President.

The foundation was started to help bring art to those battling cancer and now has expanded to a three acre garden for all.

"Its going to be amazing. we have plans for a labyrinth, an outdoor amphitheater, we have a giant ribbon trail, we have four designed natural kidscapes in mind, areas of reflection overlooking the bluff," said Sawdon-Bea.

At Color Me Mine in the River Park shopping center, supporters spent their time painting tiles that will soon go in the garden. "I thought it was the greatest thing in the world, a reflection garden, everybody needs one," said Bobby Gage, Cancer Survivor.

Gage was happy to paint a tile with her families names on it. She was one of the many that purchased a tile -- a legacy she's excited to leave in this new garden.

"They light up when they are with other survivors and the bonding, I think the healing that takes place is absolutely crucial," said Sawdon-Bea.

It took about two years to break ground on the project -- a place that will one day inspire hope and healing.

The Art of Life Healing Garden will be completed by the end of September and open to the public.
