FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A popular cardroom in Clovis is in danger of losing its gaming license. State gaming officials say the 500 Club's major financial backers don't have the necessary gaming licenses and haven't undergone the proper background checks.

The state bureau of gambling control recommends the 500 Club's license not be renewed. However, the state gambling commission went ahead and issued an interim renewal license valid through 2017.

An upcoming hearing will determine if the Clovis cardroom's major financial backers have the necessary gaming licenses and proper background checks.

One of the cardroom backers in question is the 500 Club's former attorney, who is being sued by the cardroom owner.
