Local school district sent alert out to parents following recent stranger danger cases

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Central Unified School District sent out an alert to parents following two recent events where kids reported strangers trying to lure them into their cars.

"Remind kids if they don't know someone. Don't approach them don't talk to them," said Central Unified Superintendent Mark Sutton.

Along with social media posts and school announcements, Central Unified also sent an email out this week to all parents - encouraging them to talk to their children about what to do if they are approached by someone they do not know.

"I just think the main thing is that our parents are talking to their kids and they're reminding them of what safety is and what to do and what not to do," said Sutton.

The school district is working closely with local law enforcement to get the message out as well.

Fresno Police Department wants to remind families of tips to keep their children safe in case a stranger approaches them.

"Always be with a buddy. If you're going to a bus stop get another student, stay on the sidewalk, stay in those areas where you're safe. Don't walk at night," said Lt. Mark Hudson.

In the two recent incidents where students were approached by someone in a car, the students got away untouched.

"In both cases that we had our students did the exact correct thing, which is very encouraging but we also wanted to get that word out to all of our students so they know what to do."
