Chaffee Zoo elephant gets a surprise visit from an old friend

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- One of the African elephants at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo was surprised with a special visitor this week.

Amy the elephant was reunited with her old friend Bob Norris. He is the author of a book called "The Cowboy and His Elephant", which is about Amy.

In the late 1980's Norris took her in when she was separated from her herd in Southern Africa. Since then the two formed a close bond until she became too big to keep at his ranch.

Amy was moved to a wildlife sanctuary in Arkansas until she made the trip to Fresno 5 months ago.

You can visit Amy the elephant this Thursday when the new African Adventure exhibit opens to the public.
