Coalinga dentist free of criminal charges in son's morphine overdose
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A former Coalinga dentist is free of criminal charges four years after giving his mentally challenged son a deadly dose of morphine.
Action News broke the story when 35-year-old Patrick Clare died in his dad's dental chair in 2011. We uncovered statements from staff members who said the dentist never used morphine on any other patients.
Coalinga police wanted to charge Dr. Allen Clare with manslaughter or even murder. He eventually admitted to illegally administering drugs and was sentenced to three years of probation. But after less than two years, he got the charges reduced and dropped Tuesday.
Dr. Clare gave up his California dentist's license when he was facing criminal charges, but two days before that, he renewed an Illinois dental license which Action News uncovered is still valid to this date.
