Fresno County to host grand reopening of the Lost Lake Campgrounds

FRESNO COUNTY (KFSN) -- In addition to its picturesque views of the San Joaquin River and inviting trails, Fresno County is bringing you another reason to enjoy Lost Lake Park.

"Seeing this park revitalized means there are a lot of families throughout the Central Valley that will be able to come here, enjoy themselves, and have a great time," said Fresno County Supervisor Nathan Magsig.

Community leaders were given the first look at the parks new and improved camp grounds Thursday morning.

Tree Fresno Executive Director Lee Ayres said, "I think with this, people will get a taste of the possibilities on the Parkway."

Sitting on 326 acres, Lost Lake Park has been a popular attraction for families in the Central Valley.

"You can go fishing, canoeing, you can play volleyball out here, football," said Magsig.

Closed for three years, Friday marks the grand re-opening of the camp ground.

"People need to see a cared for place. They're going to feel safer," said Ayres.

"Really it was updated. This park, these 50 acres were brought into the 21st century," said Magsig.

According to Magsig, the $1.4 million project came in under budget. Improvements include reconstructed roadways, shade structures for group campers, new barbeque pits, and picnic tables.

Magsig said the Public Works Department with the county was able to enhance original design plans.

"There are little nuances, there are little stage areas that were built, certain facades that were created around pillars just to make the park look that much better."

Funding for the project came from a State Wildlife Conservation Board Grant. Additionally, the County's Public Works and Planning provided roughly $100,000 dollars in materials and labor.
