The North Valley is gearing up for one of their biggest events of the year-- the Los Banos Tomato Festival.

LOS BANOS, Calif. (KFSN) -- The North Valley is gearing up for one of their biggest events of the year-- the Los Banos Tomato Festival.

It is not your typical Tomato Festival, the Los Banos Tomato Festival and this year the chamber is expecting more than 10,000 people to attend. The idea of the event is to explore ways to attract tourists to our area and to show off one of the things that makes Los Banos special.

From a tomato eating contest to a tomato cross fit competition the events are sure to entertain. You can take part in a chili relay and a salsa showdown.

The world's largest tomato processing facilities are right here in Los Banos-- Kagome and Paradise Tomato Kitchens make tomato based sauces for companies and ships all over the world.

Tomato Alley is where you will find some of the best festival food around, which that will include fried green tomatoes, tomato margaritas, barbecue, pizza, tomato-basil caprese kabobs and much more.

The Tomato Patch Kids Area has games and activities for the kids including tomato seed planting, tomato bean bag toss, carnival rides, and much more.

There will be Ag displays where you can learn about the importance of tomatoes to our region by visiting booths from some of the giants in the industry such as Kagome Inc., Paradise Tomato Kitchens, and Ingomar Packing.
