LOS ANGELES -- A 21-year-old man accidentally drowned in the backyard pool of a Los Angeles home owned by actress Demi Moore, authorities said.

Los Angeles police responded to the home in the 9000 block of Oak Pass Road after receiving a 911 call about a drowning around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

Moore's assistant had thrown a party at the home with several guests, including the man who drowned, authorities said. The man was identified as Edenilson Steven Valle, of Los Angeles.

"It appears he initially went unnoticed. This was 4:50 in the morning, this thing had winded down, and unfortunately this looks like an accident," Los Angeles Police Sgt. Barry Montgomery said.

Neither Moore nor her family were not home, authorities said. It was unclear if Moore's assistant had permission to throw the party.

"I am in absolute shock. I was out of the country traveling to meet my daughters for a birthday celebration when I got the devastating news," Moore said in a statement to ABC News. "The loss of a child is an unthinkable tragedy and my heart goes out to this young mans family and friends."

Police added that there is no evidence of foul play. The investigation is ongoing.
