FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Central Fresno student is starting his year as a second grader with very big goals. Zackeria Lovick has organized a school supply drive benefitting Fresno Unified students in need. And with help from family and friends, he's been collecting supplies to put in backpacks.

Each month through May, he will pick a different Fresno Unified campus to donate his completed bags. Monday afternoon, he dropped off a donation at Del Mar Elementary, which will benefit 17 students there.

His mother explained the idea came during their own shopping trip. Malarie Silos said, "We talked about how school supplies were so expensive and how some kids can't afford school supplies. He was really shocked by that and wanted to know how he could help. So we made a Facebook page originally and were surprised by the donations. Ever since then, he put together donations, opened his own bank account. He's really getting into it. It's very exciting to see."

Zackeria is thankful for the help he's already received but is open to receiving supplies from anyone willing to help his cause. Donations can be made at Studio 614 across the street from Fresno High School or at his school: Figarden Elementary.
