One North Valley family had two reasons to celebrate Wednesday night.

David Chen won the Merced County Office of Education Junior High Spelling Bee. The Cruickshank 8th grader correctly spelled the word "matutinal" to take the trophy.

His victory comes just one day after his younger brother, Daniel, won the elementary spelling bee. Daniel is a 6th grader who spelled "querulous" for the title.

First and second place winners from both competitions will represent Merced County at the state championships.
