Cowboys and cowgirls take part in Ranch Rodeo in Clovis

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- An event is helping to build excitement for the big Clovis Rodeo.

Cowboys and cowgirls took part in the Ranch Rodeo on Saturday. Teams of four competed in a variety of categories, showing off skills that are used on the cattle ranch each day such as roping and branding, and reining on the horses.

Clovis Rodeo Association President Greg Gillard says Saturday's event was extra special because it featured some familiar faces. He said, "It's all part of April for us, so it's big, and it does lead up to the big week. It gets everybody involved. This day in particular is fun because we have so many local cowboys competing."

Winners took home cash prizes and custom-made silver belt buckles.
