The Nutcracker returns for the holidays
One of the Valley's most beloved holiday traditions returns to the William Saroyan Theatre.

FRESNO, California (KFSN) -- One of the Valley's most beloved holiday traditions returns to the William Saroyan Theatre.

This weekend the Valley Performing Arts Council will bring to life the magical holiday tradition we know and love as the Nutcracker. There are two matinee performances this weekend at the William Saroyan Theatre in Fresno.

One of the Valley's most beloved holiday traditions returns to the William Saroyan Theatre.

This year's performance features 37 professional dancers from nationally acclaimed Sacramento Ballet, along with 100 student dancers and performers from Fresno Ballet Theatre hailing from 16 valley cities. The cast just got their costumes and say there are almost 5,000 yards of tulle in the show, and over 50 pounds of beading on the costumes.

She is a graduate from Clovis West High School and a student at Milles College Dance Department in Oakland. This is her 11th year in the Sacramento Ballet & Fresno Ballet Theatre Nutcracker.

Yukari Thiesen - Artistic Director

Thiesen is the founder and Artistic Director of Valley Performing Arts Council as well as the Artistic Director of Fresno Ballet Theatre. She was trained at the Matsuyama Ballet School in Tokyo Japan where she danced professionally as a soloist.

Mia Chennault - Clara

Mia Chennault, 10, of Lemoore, is dancing the role of "Clara." Chennault is a fifth grader at RJ Neutra Elementary School located on the Naval Air Station.

Two matinee performances this weekend

Saturday, Nov 26 and Sunday Nov 27

1:00 PM at the William Saroyan Theatre

Tickets to the two performances are available online at ValleyPerformingArtsCouncil.org, Ticketmaster or at the Fresno Convention Center Box Office.

Ticket prices range from $31.50 to $71.50 for adults.

Children 12 and under $31.50 throughout the theater.

A limited number of Student Rush tickets will be available at the box office one hour before each show, for high school and college students ($15). Must show a school ID at the box office.
