GOSHEN, Calif. (KFSN) -- Authorities are investigating the murder of an Exeter police officer. The Tulare County sheriff says Daniel Green, 31, was found dead in a home in Goshen Friday evening.

Detectives are following several leads in this officer's murder, but what's unclear is whether he was targeted because he's law enforcement. There was a massive presence of officers and deputies there Friday night, as they said, aggressively investigating.

Someone discovered Green murdered inside a home near Lickey Court and Cottontail Street after 5 p.m. Investigators are guarding their leads closely, but Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux says gang and violent crimes detectives from his department and Visalia police are working this case.

"We have several different potential directions as to potential suspects. As you would imagine peace officers come across a variety of different people in the line of their work," said Boudreaux.

Green was a 10-year veteran of the Exeter Police Department.

"As you could imagine the chief and his personnel are here and on scene, and we're doing what we can to comfort them. Our chaplains with the sheriff's department are one scene; we've provided that to their personnel. As you could imagine they are very upset," said Boudreaux.

A motive in the murder of Officer Green has not been released, and the sheriff also declined to say how he was killed. That's information he says that could compromise their investigation at this point.
