'Extremely dangerous' psychiatric patient from Hawaii caught in California
Honolulu police said Randall Saito, who escaped from psychiatric hospital in Hawaii, has been captured in California.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Honolulu police said Randall Saito, who escaped from psychiatric hospital in Hawaii, has been captured in California.

Honolulu CrimeStoppers Sgt. Chris Kim said they received a tip that Saito was headed to a brother's house in Stockton, California. Honolulu police then forwarded that information to authorities in Stockton.

Police have determined that, shortly after escaping, Saito took a taxi from Kaneohe to Honolulu, where he chartered a plane to Maui. He boarded another plane from there, police said.

Saito arrived in San Jose in Northern California's Silicon Valley Sunday night, police said.

Police say he arrived in San Jose two hours before hospital staff reported his disappearance.

Randall Saito, who was committed to the Hawaii State Hospital on Oahu in 1981 after being acquitted of first-degree murder by reason of insanity, left the hospital outside Honolulu Sunday morning and never returned, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
