IRS warning public about new scam using scare tactics to get your money
The IRS has a warning for the public-- especially during tax season.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The IRS has a warning for the public-- especially during tax season. Scammers are getting more sophisticated in tricking taxpayers out of their money by using threatening phone calls.

A typical call involves threatening victims with things like immediate arrest or an impending lawsuit if a person doesn't send money quickly. Officials say those are clear red flags. Federal authorities also say the IRS will never contact you by telephone. They will first try to contact you through the mail.

If you do get a call from someone claiming to be with the IRS experts say the best advice is to hang up and report the number through the IRS website.
