FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Officials in Auberry are investigating the cause of a late night brush fire.
Fire crews received several calls about a fire burning near Auberry and Powerhouse Road a little before 11p.m. Sunday. It burned about 2.5 acres before fire crews were able to get a handle on it.
Fire officials say the hillside was covered with dry brush and trees enabling the flames to spread very quickly.
"It's pretty steep, fuels are heavy here, so it's predominantly a brush and oak woodland. And although we've contained the fire, we've got a quite a bit of mop of ahead us," said Chris King, Battalion Chief, CalFire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
