Fig Fest attracts hundreds to Fresno State
The annual Fig Fest drew large crowds to Fresno State on Saturday.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The annual Fig Fest drew large crowds to Fresno State on Saturday. About 1,500 people came out to sample fig dishes from 20 local restaurants.

They varied from savory main courses including polenta and risottos, to sweet desserts such as fig macaroons. People could also enjoy free wine and beer samples from local breweries.

Fig Fest organizers say the event helps educate people on new ways to incorporate the fruit into more dishes. "It really is. Enjoy the fresh ones, pair them with your favorite cheeses, pair them with meats and things like that, or add them to your favorite dishes," said Karla Stockli, CEO of the California Fig Advisory Board. "When you think about figs, think California, think delicious, and think sweet, savory and everywhere in between that you love to enjoy them."

Celebrity chef Fabio Viviani helped host the event this year and served as a guest judge along with Action News reporter Amanda Venegas.
