FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- An investigation is underway after a woman's body was discovered in a canal in southwest Fresno.

Authorities have identified the woman as 33-year-old Jaime Andersen.

Irrigation employees found the body at Nielsen and Teilman Avenues around 8:30 Tuesday morning.

It appears Andersen had been in the water for quite some time.

The coroner's office was contacted for help retrieving the body from the canal.

Fresno police would like to remind the public that although canals and ponding basins may look inviting during the summer, the underwater currents can be strong and deadly.
