A judge has sentenced Leuth Sengsongkham to 90 years to life in prison for the murder of his wife and her lover.

Leuth Sengsongkham expressed his regret, even said he blacked out when he killed his wife and her boyfriend in the Fresno County field where they tended to Asian vegetables. His kids begged the judge for mercy. They said the man who raised them was a great role model and father.

"Life isn't fair and people make mistakes. People do learn from their mistakes and I truly believe that my father is still a good, honest man," said Jenny Sengsongkham, daughter.

The family requested we not show their faces. They cried throughout the sentencing. Sengsongkham's son said he respects his father is for taking responsibility for what he did. But the effects of what happened and the sudden absence of both parents has been painful.

"I just know that one day, we'll have our closure in peace--the day that we get to hold you again. And hug you and tell you how much we love you," said Jason Sengsongkham, son.

During the trial, Sengsongkham said there was no argument before he first shot his wife's lover, Keo Thongkhamvilay-- then his wife.

Thursday, Keo's niece, spoke also asking for some leniency.

Even though we lost someone from our side, it is hard for them to have to lose their dad too," said Lena Thongkhamvilay, Samkeo's niece.

Even confined, Sengsongkham's children said he continues to encourage them during visits and phone calls. His influence on them still remains strong.

"One of the most important things he's taught us is how to love. He always said if you are going to love, you have to love with your whole heart," said Jennifer Schnaffner, daughter.
