Fresno State loses to Utah State, 37-35

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno State Bulldogs (4-5) lost to the Utah State (5-4), 37-35 after the Aggies kicked a game-winning 30-yard field goal.

Fresno State got a much-needed win against Hawaii last week and was still in the hunt for the West Division title coming into Saturday. The Dogs welcomed in Utah State who dropped back-to-back games against Air Force and BYU.

The game was tied at 14 in the second quarter. Utah State scored on back-to-back drives. Jordan Love passed to Siaosi Mariner for an 8-yard touchdown, giving the Aggies the lead, 21-14. That would be the score at the half.

Love, a Bakersfield native, tried to put on a show for his family in attendance.

Dogs would respond in the third quarter. Jorge Reyna finds Jalen Cropper. He went 30 yards, initially ruled a touchdown. Replays showed him down at the one-inch line.

Ronnie Rivers rushed in his third score of the game. The Dogs were down a touchdown. The defense got a stop on their ensuing drive, and Cropper went 10 yards to the house for the lead, 35-31.

But in the end, it would be Utah State giving the dogs a taste of their own medicine -- a walk-off field goal to win the game, 37-35.

Fresno State drops 4-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

The Bulldogs now have a short week to prepare for San Diego State on Friday. The Aztecs sit atop the MW West division with a record of 7-1 (MW 4-1) prior to their game against Nevada. Kickoff is set for 6:30 pm at SDCCU Stadium on November 15th. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
