Substitute teacher shortage in FUSD worse to the south

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Officials with the Fresno Unified School District say there is always a need for substitute teachers. But the Fresno Teacher's Association claims schools in certain parts of town are suffering greatly from the problem.
The FTA says it's happy the district has hired 150 more subs since August. It's just concerned with the system in place to deploy them.
According to district numbers most schools on the northern side of town have no problems finding substitute teachers to come in. But many elementary schools in the southern part of the district have some of the worst substitute teacher fill rates. Schools like Roeding and Addams elementary schools have to split up kids into different classrooms when teachers are out.
The Fresno Teachers Association hopes the district provides some incentives to keep substitute teachers at certain schools that have trouble finding them.
